Siebel Center
The $64M Thomas
M. Siebel Center for Computer Science was made possible through the
generosity of Thomas M. Seibel, CEO of Seibel Systems and matching
funding from the State of Illinois. Ground was
broken on the new facility on November 15, 2001, and it was dedicated May 1, 2004.
The building's 225,000 square
feet are intended to be a "computing habitat…incorporating
intelligent technology that anticipates and responds to [human]
activity". Designed by
LZT Associates, Inc, and Bohlin, Cywinski, and Jackson,
the Seibel
Center won the
Illinois Engineering Council's 2004 Outstanding Engineering
Achievement award.
The Siebel
Center takes the place of the Digital Computer
Laboratory (DCL) as the home of the Department of Computer
Science. Similar to the Beckman Institute, the
Seibel
Center
features an
onsite café, the Bevande Café, which offers
a variety of food and beverage
items.
